Energy Sparks is seeking an HR specialist Trustee to help shape our people strategy and governance.
Provide strategic oversight and challenge on people, culture and workforce matters, supporting the Chair of trustees and CEO on HR matters. Support the Board and CEO in ensuring Energy Spark’s people strategy is aligned to its mission and future growth. Advise on significant HR risks, workforce planning, succession planning and organisational development. Review key HR policies and people-related governance arrangements to ensure legal compliance and good practice. Monitor high-level workforce indicators and bring emerging risks or opportunities to the Board’s attention.

Essential experience and personal qualities Demonstrate a strong and visible passion and commitment to the charity, its strategic objectives and its cause. Senior HR or People leadership experience. Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice. Experience of advising senior leaders and/or boards on people related issues. A strong commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and employee wellbeing. Strategic thinker who can distinguish between governance and operational management. Desirable experience Experience within a charity, education or purpose-driven organisation where resources are limited. Experience of building positive organisational cultures in remote teams. Experience scaling smaller organisations.
As our HR Trustee, you will play a key role in helping Energy Sparks continue to grow sustainably while remaining a supportive, inclusive and values-driven organisation. Your strategic insight will help ensure our people, culture and governance are aligned with our mission to empower schools and young people to take meaningful action on climate change. Working alongside fellow Trustees and the CEO, you will provide constructive challenge and independent oversight on people and workforce matters. Your expertise will help the Board make informed decisions about organisational development, workforce planning, succession planning, culture and people-related risk, ensuring the charity is well positioned for future growth. Your contribution will strengthen the governance of the charity by helping to ensure that our HR policies, practices and governance arrangements reflect legal requirements, good practice and our organisational values. You will also champion an inclusive and positive organisational culture that enables our staff to thrive and deliver the greatest possible impact for schools. By supporting the organisation at Board level, you will help Energy Sparks continue to expand its reach and maximise its impact. Today, we work with more than 1,000 schools across the UK, helping school leaders, teachers and pupils reduce energy consumption, cut carbon emissions and save money through data-driven insights and climate education. Your expertise will help ensure we have the people, leadership and culture needed to achieve our long-term ambitions and support even more schools in the years ahead.
Our Trustee Board meetings, of which there are four a year, are mostly held remotely. Trustees are expected to contribute to major decision-making between meetings, particularly in relation to their specialist areas of expertise.
