Music Volunteer - Practice Buddy

Orchestra of Everything Foundation

Encourage children as they practise instruments. No music skills needed, just a love of music & kids

Detailed Description

OOEF delivers free music education to 270 children aged 7–11 at two Bath primary schools in deprived communities — massively high impact, with a 39% reduction in suspensions and the attention of the DfE and Bath Spa University. As a Practice Buddy you sit alongside small groups on Wednesday afternoons, listening and encouraging as children work through their instruments. Sessions are high priority — children are released from maths to attend. No musical background needed. We want someone who loves music, cares about children, and brings warmth and patience.

What skills are required for this role

Interpersonal, Empathy, Flexibility

Why these skills are required

We work with children from some of Bath's most deprived communities, many with SEND or difficult home circumstances. What makes the difference is not musical expertise but the quality of human connection -- a volunteer who listens without judgement, celebrates small wins, and shows up reliably. You need to be comfortable working closely with children you may not know, and to work as part of a team in a school environment. We provide all the musical and programme context you need.

What is in it for you

You will see children light up in real time - often children who struggle in conventional classroom settings. You will be part of a warm, supportive volunteer team with access to training and mentoring. References available. DBS arranged by OOEF at no cost to you.
