Helpline Volunteer
No Panic
No Panic is looking for helpline volunteers to provide reassurance and anxiety self-help advice.
We are looking for more volunteers to take calls on the No Panic Helpline. Every day we take multiple calls from people suffering from severe anxiety, such as OCD; Panic Attacks; Phobias or General Anxiety Disorder. They are desperate for help. We are open 365 days a year 10 am to 10pm. Our volunteers are trained to provide reassurance to callers and explore with them self-help ways to manage their anxiety. Everything is done from home, including training. A phone and a computer with internet connection for Zoom are needed. Shifts are 3 hours per week; training 1 night a week for 8 weeks.
Advice, Information & Support
Basic IT skills - internet & email, Interpersonal, Empathy
An ideal Helpliner has an interest in anxiety disorders and the following skills: • Ability to provide empathetic listening. • Ability to pass on information on self-help techniques. • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
This is a work from home opportunity, so fitness and mobility are not an issue. If you have suffered from anxiety yourself, helping others can be very fulfilling. If you are a psychology or counselling student, we will provide you with references after one year. You can go on to be trained to become a mentor, helping those with the most difficult conditions.
Our volunteers do one 3-hour shift per week. Training is 1 ½ hours, one night a week for 8 weeks. Support groups are 1 hour monthly/bi-monthly.
