Exercise Volunteer (Paulton Hospital)

As an Exercise Volunteer at Paulton Hospital, you will be essential to help our elderly patients maintain their strength and function through exercises during their stay in hospital. Physiotherapists on the ward will prescribe specific exercises tailored to each patient, which the volunteers will then practice with the patients and encourage them to complete on a regular basis.

Detailed Description

There is a national drive around getting patients up and moving, with the aim to maximise their quality of life and help them be discharged from hospital as soon as it is safe. As an Exercise Volunteer at Paulton Hospital, you will be essential to help our elderly patients maintain their strength and function through exercises during their stay in hospital. Physiotherapists on the ward will prescribe specific exercises tailored to each patient, which the volunteers will then practice with the patients and encourage them to complete. Volunteer tasks: - Liaising with the Physiotherapy team to gather a list of patients to see each shift - Promoting patient safety whilst in hospital through regular movement, nutrition, and hydration - Approaching patients and encouraging them to take up movement sessions - Following a prescribed bed or chair-based exercise programme - Supporting exercise classes provided by the Physiotherapy team - Demonstrating exercises for patients and encouraging them to take part - Reporting on any challenges experienced by the patient back to a clinical member of staff
