Potential reader finder for adult literacy charity - Read Easy Bath
Read Easy
This is a vital and interesting role within our Management Team to create and build relationships with local agencies to find adults who are unable to read and would like to learn one-to-one with a trained coach.
There are 2.4 million adults in England alone β over 7% of the working age population β who can barely read or cannot read at all. This is a vital and interesting role within our Management Team to create and develop relationships with local agencies, such as Job Centres, social services and many others who may be able to refer potential readers to the group. This voluntary position will suit people who thrive on networking and making new connections. The impact our local groups make is down to securing a steady stream of Reader referrals, so you will play an instrumental part in making sure your group thrives. Learning to read as an adult can be life-changing and break inter-generational cycles. Our Readers have often kept their literacy struggles a secret β too embarrassed and ashamed to seek help. Their bravery in coming to Read Easy means that you can help spark the transformation in their lives.

Read Easy Bath was set up in 2020 and we already have a thriving community of coaches. You would play a significant role in offering support to people who, for any number of reasons, missed their opportunity to learn to read at school. It has been extremely rewarding to see people's lives transformed by reading, gaining confidence and enabling them to see new opportunities and employment . Our volunteers give someone a skill that allows them to fulfil their goals and live everyday life more easily. Itβs life-changing and you can be part of this! We are a fully established team who all pitch in together and support each other and are very inclusive of new people joining our team, so this will be a chance to support your local community and meet other like-minded volunteers.
6-9 Management Committee meetings per year (evenings, 1-1.5 hours) plus 5-10 hours per month, flexible.
