Home Library Service Support Volunteer
Bath and North East Somerset Libraries
The volunteers of our Home Library Service deliver books to readers who are unable to visit their local Library. This service is growing in popularity and demand, and we wish to recruit admin volunteers to support the service. This role can be done from home and is focused on ensuring our volunteers have everything they need to provide the best for our readers.
The Home Library Service is for readers who are not able to reach their local library branch. Volunteers visit the reader at home to deliver, collect and return books to their local Library. Readers can specify titles or work together with their volunteer to make selections on their behalf. Anyone who has restricted mobility, is housebound or cannot easily go out alone without help is eligible for the service and the support can be short-term or long-term, depending on the reader’s needs. This role is an administrative role supporting the volunteers of the Home Library Service. Each HLS Support Volunteer will act as a coordinator and first point of contact for a group of approximately ten volunteers, with support from staff. You will… • Be in regular contact with volunteers, via phone/email/other platforms/in person • Be available for volunteers discuss any problems or concerns they have • Co-ordinate any temporary gaps to the service (if a volunteer is unwell, for example, another volunteer may need to deliver to their reader as a one-off) • Inform staff of any problems or concerns you or the volunteers have • Keep staff informed with regular updates • Be introduced to any new volunteers and, where possible, readers. • Regularly collect information such as ‘hours volunteered’ from volunteers and pass to staff • Remind volunteers about deadlines for submitting other information, such as travel expenses, to staff • Keep volunteers informed with regular updates • Assist volunteers with admin tasks, such as form-filling and similar

We recognise the importance of volunteers in helping us to deliver a better service, so we reimburse travel costs and our friendly staff offer support, guidance and a warm welcome. On our last volunteer survey (October 2019) our staff welcome was rated 4.8 out of 5 stars!
