Volunteers needed to listen to children read! Schoolreaders is a national child literacy charity that recruits volunteers to go into local primary schools to listen to children read. We are calling out for more volunteers across Bath and North East Somerset. If you can spare just an hour a week, you could change a child’s life story. To find out more, visit Schoolreaders.org.
One in four children leave primary school unable to read to the expected standard. This means they are unable to fully access their secondary education which will have a life-long impact on their opportunities. Schoolreaders needs volunteers to go into local primary schools in a range of areas across Bath and North East Somerset during the school day to listen to the children read to them 1:1. Volunteers need to be able to commit to visiting their school once a week during term time for one hour or more. Our volunteers get enormous pleasure from seeing the difference that a few hours of their time can make to a child's reading ability, confidence and enjoyment. If you have some time to spare, a good grasp of written English and if you enjoy spending time with children, you could become a Schoolreader. Our volunteers are drawn from all walks of life, and range in age from 18 to 90! We do not ask for any particular qualifications, but you will need to enjoy spending time with children, have a good grasp of written and spoken English and be able to commit to attend school weekly during term time for a minimum of 1 year (holidays or other appointments during term time can be accommodated) . To find out more, please visit Schoolreaders.org.
